October 2007 Kosher Sushi Club

Last month we had a kind-of/sort-of meeting when I spun a sake event at the Drunken Fish in the Central West End.  The evening was a lot of fun, though my after set meal found the sushi still average and over-priced.  A recent trip to Cha Yoon / Chi down the street in the CWE, shows that they still have some of the best rolls and pieces in town for a reasonable price.  We may be visiting there in November.

This month we're venturing west ... way west.  The club hasn't crossed the Missouri River in a couple of years, and all the new places seem to be popping up out there.  This month we're headed to Crazy Sushi, a sushi bar well reviewed on our only trip out there.  The service was exceptional and the sushi above average, if not exemplary.  I'm curious to see if the initial review holds up!

August 2007 Kosher Sushi Club

After taking July off, Kosher Sushi Club is ramping up.  This month we're heading down to one of my old stomping grounds, Rue 13.  Located on the Wash Ave strip, Rue 13 is the only night club to survive the gentrification of the neighborhood.  A couple years back, Washington Ave. was home to upwards of a dozen clubs.  Almost all have vanished or moved to other neighborhoods.

Despite being a night club, Rue has always had consistently good sushi.  Wednesday night they offer fantastic drink specials ($1 Pabst, well and infused sake), and I believe the reduced price sushi menu is in effect if you order early (but please don't quote me on that ... I could be wrong).  If you stay late enough, a fantastic local DJ, Kenny Kingston, will take you on a journey through time as he visits "dollar bin" records of 1985 - 1995.

Good sushi, cheap booze, great beats -- how can we go wrong?  Hope to see you there!
